Apprenticeship as a technical product designer

Product design and engineering

General information

  • Duration of training: 3.5 years (with good performance in both the training company and at school, the examination can be brought forward by six months, reducing the total training duration to 3 years)
  • Form of apprenticeship: Dual apprenticeship in the part-time teaching model:
  • You spend 1 or 2 days a week at vocational school and the rest of the time at the company
  • Qualification: Certified IHK diploma

Training content

  • Basics of technical drawing
  • Basics of metal-processing
  • Getting to know and working out the topics: Production technology, metrology and materials technology
  • Intensive training in the CREO Parametric software application
  • From the 3rd year of apprenticeship: working on a variety of projects in the design department

What you should bring with you

  • Secondary school certificate or higher
  • Good grades in mathematics and physics
  • Interested in technical contexts and solutions
  • Ability to work in a team, perseverance and endurance, motivation and good comprehension skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Reliability

Why is this job important and what do you work on?

  • You will work in our design and development department
  • You will specialize in the field of product design and mechanical design engineering
  • You design individual components, assemblies and drawings for a wide range of industries, and you are involved in the development process
  • You will create and maintain technical documentation

What opportunities are available to you after your apprenticeship?

After your apprenticeship, you are very welcome to join our engineering team.  

 

The state-certified technician, for example, is an interesting option for further full-time or part-time training.

 

If you already have a high school diploma, the apprenticeship is a good basis for studying mechanical engineering.
